Enjoy three days in the Upstate of South Carolina while learning wilderness medicine principles adjacent to one of the most popular hiking and biking trails in the region.  Located between Asheville, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina, our course is surrounded by unlimited outdoor activities.  Enjoy the award-winning Greenville downtown and it’s Swamp Rabbit trail, or explore the wild woods and waterfalls on endless miles of local hiking trails.  Enjoy South Carolina’s most popular state parks or find your flow on any of the hundreds of mountain bike trails nearby.  For a more urban perspective, spend some time in the southern Appalachian food corridor of Asheville, Hendersonville, Travelers Rest, and Greenville.  Bring your bike, hiking boots, or fishing rods, and come learn and play with us in Greenville.  Complementary housing and lunches are provided as part of this course.  Contact us for more details.

Course Description:

➢ Learn the latest practical hands-on wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment and evacuation protocols
➢ Practice your skills in live scenarios with our expert instructors
➢ Obtain up to 20.5 hours of category 1 CME*
➢ Receive Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credits

The AWLS curriculum consists of:

❖ Head, Ear, Eye, Nose, Throat, Skin
❖ Animal & insect Bites
❖ Musculoskeletal injuries
❖ Wound management
❖ Water treatment
❖ Hyperthermia, hypothermia & frostbite
❖ Medical kits
❖ Lightning
❖ Dive Medicine

This 3-day course balances didactic lectures with hands-on instruction to most effectively train students in managing medical situations in austere environments. This course is designed for licensed medical professionals (MD, EMT, PA, NP, RN, etc) or medical professionals in training who have an interest in expanding their medical knowledge of wilderness medical pathology and in enhancing their practical skills in a wilderness environment.

CME Credit:

With the Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification students earn 20.5 hours of Category 1 CME, as well as Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credit. Please note that the CME credit hours differ for traditional in person and hybrid courses.
