Wilderness Medicine CME – Portland
Blanketed across the confluence of 2 majestic rivers and within an hour of both the Pacific Coast and Cascade Mountains, Portland and its lush environs have something for nearly every lover of the outdoors.
You can snowboard and run whitewater on the same day almost any time of year and still be back in the city for dinner. More contemplative types might prefer a hilly amble through Portland’s urban, but seemingly boundless Forest Park. Anglers can drop a line for wild salmon where the placid Willamette River runs beneath downtown bridges.

The AWLS Hybrid course is an exciting new format for us. Following completion of Online Modules to cover the didactic portion of the AWLS curriculum, students will meet in person for the practical skills component. Following an opportunity to review questions from the modules, we will dive into practical skills and wilderness victim scenarios. This means the two days in the Pacific Northwest will be spent almost entirely outside doing hands-on practical skills.
Less time in class means more time to play and explore the rivers and mountains of Oregon! World-class hiking, climbing, and mountain biking can be found in and around Portland, and following your AWLS course, you will be prepared for anything the area has to throw at you!
With the Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification students earn 24.5 hours of Category 1 CME, as well as Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credit.
