Reykjavik, Iceland: HYBRID

Location

Join us in Reykjavik for an exciting weekend of Advanced Wilderness Life Support! This course is for medical professionals looking to adapt their skills to be used in an austere or resource-limited environment, such as the wilderness, airplanes, remote EMS with long transport times, or even in an urban environment when responding to an emergency.

Course Description:

➢ Earn your Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification
➢ Learn the latest practical hands-on wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment and evacuation protocols
➢ Practice your skills in live scenarios with our expert instructors
➢ Obtain up to 24.5 hours of category 1 CME*
➢ Receive Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credits

The AWLS Hybrid curriculum consists of:

❖ Patient assessment
❖ Trauma
❖ Medical problems
❖ Infectious disease
❖ Head, Ear, Eye, Nose, Throat, Skin
❖ Animal & insect Bites
❖ Musculoskeletal injuries
❖ Wound management
❖ Water treatment
❖ Hyperthermia, hypothermia & frostbite
❖ Medical kits
❖ Lightning
❖ HAPE/HACE
❖ Dive Medicine

The AWLS Hybrid course is an exciting new format that we are very excited to bring to Iceland! Following completion of Online Modules to cover the didactic portion of the AWLS curriculum, students will meet in person for the practical skills component. Following an opportunity to review questions from the modules, we will dive into practical skills and wilderness victim scenarios. This means the two days in Reykjavik will be spent almost entirely outside doing hands-on practical skills. Participants will have opportunities to practice and get feedback on bandaging, improvised splinting, and litter building before putting these new skills to the test in scenarios representative of real wilderness medicine cases.

CME Credit:

With the Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification students earn 24.5 hours of Category 1 CME, as well as Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credit.
