Come learn AWLS with Blue Ridge Adventure Medicine in Roanoke, VA! This course will take place alongside backpacking and rafting in this unique area. The Blue Ridge mountains earned their name for the bluish hue they give off when viewed from a distance, and are part of the greater Appalachian Mountains. Not only do they hold two national parks and eight national forests, they are also part of the Appalachian Trail. More than hiking, biking, and other land sports, the area also holds both rivers and lakes for those interested in water sports. Some of the most well known include the Roanoke River, Bottom Creek, Bullpasture River, and Smith Mountain Lake. This area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, and provide amazing opportunities to get outside!
Course Description:

The AWLS curriculum consists of:

❖ Dive Medicine
This 3-day course balances didactic lectures with hands-on instruction to most effectively train students in managing medical situations in austere environments. This course is designed for licensed medical professionals (MD, EMT, PA, NP, RN, etc) or medical professionals in training who have an interest in expanding their medical knowledge of wilderness medical pathology and in enhancing their practical skills in a wilderness environment.
CME Credit:
With the Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification students earn 20.5 hours of Category 1 CME, as well as Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credit. Please note that the CME credit hours differ for traditional in person courses and hybrid courses.
